This week we're exploring the Annisquam River in West Gloucester. This beautiful salt water estuary runs from Ipswich Bay on the North to Gloucester Harbor on the South, and is a perfect place for exploring this time of year!
We'll meet at Long Wharf in Gloucester at 3:15, getting on the water as the tide fills the marsh. We'll ride the incoming tide toward the 128 bridge, and as its strength begins to wane, we'll turn into the marsh and explore Aaron's new favorite island. We'll paddle back through the estuary against a beautiful backdrop of gold and red leaves, lit beautifully by the setting sun.
Old-fashioned directions to Long Wharf-
From 128 North, take exit 13 and take a left on Concord Street. Follow Concord Street until you see signs for Wingaersheek Beach. Take a right onto Atlantic St and follow f or just under a mile until you see signs for the Jones River Salt Marsh. Turn right down the dirt and stone path that leads out through the marsh. Drive slow down the path as the crater-sized potholes will do a number on your car :).
